Castle Motes

Castle motes were made to mainly keep cannons far enough away so they couldn't destroy the castle walls as easily. Motes were trenches around the castle walls, they couldn't be crossed without a drawbridge. Another reason motes were useful is because the enemy had ladders to climb up the walls with but once the mote was installed they couldn't use the ladders because of the gap.
